Tuxera’s Reliance Assure™ reaches new heights in safety-critical avionics with ScioTeq

Tuxera is the only independent power fail-safe file system provider certifiable for DO-178C DAL D environments.

HELSINKI, Finland – [November 19, 2024] – Tuxera has reached a key milestone with ScioTeq, an avionics visualization, computing and networking technology company, as the Reliance Assure™ file system is now fully integrated into ScioTeq’s DO-178C DAL D environment for cockpit displays, supporting both crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

“We appear to be the only independent power fail-safe option certifiable for DO-178C environments, with code designed for full traceability and compliance from the start,” says Jason Wilkes, EMEA Sales Director at Tuxera.

While this project begins at the DAL D level—the entry-level classification under DO-178C—ScioTeq and Tuxera are already working toward DAL B certification.

After first engaging Tuxera in 2021, ScioTeq searched the global market for a high-performance file system that met stringent DO-178C certification standards. However, the company struggled to find a standalone solution with the necessary resilience and documentation. In 2024, ScioTeq partnered with Tuxera, identifying Reliance Assure as the best fit for their needs.

“ScioTeq evaluated several benchmarks, including read and write speeds, power fail safety, and data resilience, and realized that we could never meet our schedule if we would develop our own file system in a DO-178C environment, surely not when targeting the equivalent performance of Reliance Assure. That’s why joining forces with Tuxera was the preferred strategy, providing a high-quality solution aligned with our MOSArt® roadmap,”

Built for aviation safety

Originally developed to meet the ISO 26262 functional safety standard within the Automotive SPICE framework, Tuxera adapted Reliance Assure for aviation by addressing specific documentation and compliance requirements. Each line of code was written to meet the aviation industry’s complex safety and traceability standards.

For many aviation companies, building custom systems is the default to ensure full control over safety and reliability, so trusting an off-the-shelf solution takes time. But once ScioTeq saw the capability and performance of Tuxera’s well-documented, high-performance system, the benefits were clear.

Towards DAL B certification

Tuxera and ScioTeq are working to achieve DAL B certification, a more stringent standard for safety-critical systems, while also exploring a certifiable networking stack for DO-178C environments.
This partnership opens up a whole new market for Tuxera, broadening the company’s reach into safety-critical aviation applications.
