From Intern to Specialist
From Intern to Specialist
Remember your internship? The first time you got a taste of real work life? For Simon Theys, Junior Repair Specialist, this is not just a distant memory. It feels like it was yesterday. Well, it wasn’t all that long ago. After his internship, Simon was firmly convinced that ScioTeq was the right match for him, so after graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics-ICT, he started his job at ScioTeq, restoring smart displays for business jets and military aircraft.
Choosing ScioTeq
"In my final year studying Electronics-ICT at Vives, we had to do an internship of several months. After studying the list of eligible companies, I had made a shortlist. It soon became clear that ScioTeq was one of the few companies that could offer an internship that would focus on hardware, which is where my interests lie. It also looked like a nice position that perfectly matched my training, in an uncommon market and easily accessible. So ScioTeq was a pretty logical choice."
International player, fun environment
Simon quickly learned that working at international market leader ScioTeq is not just about the work. "The atmosphere is also significant here. Sure, we all work very hard on our projects, which is why we can deliver the most innovative products on the market, but there is also room to have fun. We eat together, we take breaks together, HR and the party committee frequently organize fun events, and much more."
This philosophy is in line with Simon’s personality. He has been a member and leader of a local youth movement for many years. "It's nice to see that this team spirit, this sense of unity, also has a place in the workplace."
Growth opportunities.
ScioTeq believes in opportunities, in growth. The company has developed into a strong international brand, providing young people with chances and opportunities to develop. For ScioTeq, it is essential that employees can grow and develop their skills.
Internship mentor
Peter, Senior Repair Specialist at ScioTeq, was Simon's internship mentor. "Simon was our first intern at the customer support repair department who actually became a permanent colleague."
ScioTeq has a lot to offer, both in hardware and software options. For example, students can work at the component level, from design to print.
"In preparation for the internships, I design a project that the students can then develop and work on. They get a lot of freedom on tackling the project, which is very interesting, not only for them but also for us. Of course, I also support them where necessary to achieve a good result."
"During testing, our displays are often placed in climate cabinets where the temperature ranges between -40°C (40°F) and 60°C (140°F). During the internship, Simon developed the hardware and software for a processor card, measuring voltage and current during temperature variations."
New colleagues
In recent years, ScioTeq has launched many new projects and welcomed many interns within the different departments. As a company, ScioTeq is committed to sustainable growth, giving the company room to welcome new permanent employees.
